Home sauna vs public sauna calculator

By the Home Sauna Guide Team · Updated

Filled in for two people who'd otherwise go to a public sauna twice a week at €18.50 each, against a 2-person plug-in infrared sauna at about €2,300. Change anything and the result updates.

1. The home sauna

A plug-in indoor infrared sauna may need nothing extra. A garden sauna usually needs a base and a new circuit.

About €0.81 for a 2.4 kW infrared sauna at 40.64c per kWh. Work out yours with the running cost calculator.

2. The public sauna you'd use instead

Irish wild and public saunas charge roughly €13.50 to €24.96 a session.

A home sauna pays for itself in

Counts only the sauna, its fitting and its electricity against session fees. It leaves out travel to a public sauna, maintenance, and any value the sauna adds or loses. It assumes you'd use a home sauna as often as a public one, which many people don't.

Reading the result

The more people share a home sauna and the more often you'd go, the faster it pays off. A household of two going twice a week pays a public sauna far more each year than one person going once a fortnight.
